The new Kindertagesstätte building is located in the very center of Mörschwil, next to the Kirche St. Johannes der Täufer, with access to the site from the square in front of the church.
The project proposes preserving part of the existing building — namely, the Erdgeschoss, which is made of monolithic reinforced concrete. However, it requires an increase in height with the construction of new foundations. The Obergeschoss, built from a hybrid timber-steel frame, is to be dismantled, though the fiber cement façade panels will be reused.
We propose maintaining the two-story structure, while extending the building footprint to the north and east. Additionally, the ground floor will be extended along the existing perimeter of the building. As a result, the size of the courtyard will be reduced — therefore, we propose using the roof of the Erdgeschoss as a terrace, with direct access from the group rooms and the dining area.
We also plan to integrate an amphitheater and add a tower with two spiral slides and an internal spiral staircase, which will connect the terrace to the courtyard and create a circular play route.
